ENTREVISTA A L'ALISON
1) Where are you from?
I'm from the U.K., originally from Essex, but I moved around the country a lot as a child due to my father's job. However, I have now lived in Spain for longer than I lived in the U.K.. I also spent 4 years living in Chicago which was an amazing experience for my family and I. As a result of all the moves I've made, I actually consider myself to be a world citizen more than British.
2) What did you do before becoming an English teacher?
I became an English teacher when I moved to Spain after graduating from university and I haven't looked back since. I love helping people learn English and seeing them have Aha! moments when they understand the more complex parts of the language. This always happens with areas that don't translate well from their native language to English.
3) What brought you here?
In a word, LOVE brought me here to Spain. I had met my partner whilst on an Erasmus exchange in Rotterdam. He is from Barcelona and was also there participating in the programme. It was a huge challenge for me as I spoke no Spanish when I arrived, and back then not as many people spoke English. It was the best way to learn though, just like a baby learning their native language.
4) What is it like living/working here?
I enjoy living and working here in Spain, and I've considered it home for a very long time. Of course I miss my family, even after living here for over 30 years, but with video calls and low-cost airlines, having regular contact with them is so much easier than years ago. They all love coming to visit me too, and enjoying the good food and weather!
5) What do you do in your free time?
In my free time I love travelling, quilting and spending time with family and friends. I learnt how to quilt when we lived in Chicago and I now have so many quilts that I also enjoy making them to give as gifts to family and friends. When I'm not creating new masterpieces, I'm usually planning my next trip to discover a new city or country. I think my favourite destinations have been the national parks in the U.S.A. and also visiting Japan!
A l'Alison: moltes gràcies per aquesta petita entrevista. A tu i als teus alumnes, us desitgem un molt bon curs!
