THE INTERVIEW
1) Where are you from?
I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I grew up in a suburb called Dandenong. My hometown is known for being the most culturally diverse community in Australia! I moved to Barcelona in July 2024.
2) What did you do before becoming an English teacher?
Before becoming an English teacher, I worked as a secondary school teacher at a school in Melbourne. I started teaching full-time in 2018 and haven't looked back. I specialised in Business Studies, Legal Studies and the Humanities. I love being in the classroom, and I'm always excited by the opportunities that teaching presents.
3) What brought you here?
From a very young age I was gripped by wanderlust and a thirst for new adventures. I have always sought new experiences to push myself out of my comfort zone. I found an opportunity to teach in Spain and decided that it was the perfect way to challenge myself, both personally and professionally. I can confidently say it's been the best decision I've ever made!
4) What is it like living/working here?
I love it! I am currently living in Barcelona and working in Llinars del Vallès. Barcelona is a feast for the senses. It's a busy and bustling city, and there is always something happening. In comparison, Llinars offers a very welcome change of pace. I'm lucky to be part of such a warm and supportive team there. I am amazed at how quickly I felt at home here despite being so far away from the one I grew up in.
5) What do you do in your free time?
I'm all about good food, good company and good music! I love spending time outdoors, and I'm especially drawn to water, so the beach is my happy place. In my free time I enjoy trying new foods, spending time with friends, and travelling as often as I can.
A la Johanna: moltes gràcies per aquesta petita entrevista. A tu i als teus alumnes, us desitgem un molt bon curs!
