A2 Key + A2 Key for Schools
This internationally recognised official Cambridge English exam demonstrates a pre-intermediate level with a basic grasp of English grammar and communication skills (Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
It is designed especially for children and teenagers studying at school. Students receive the same certificate as adults that take the A2 Key exam.
What is “PET for Schools"?
The A2 Key (KET) for Schools exam has the same format as the A2 Key (KET) for Adults. The only difference is the topics, which are more suitable for young learners studying at school.
Why take the exam?
There are many reasons for doing the A2 KET exam (for Adults or for Schools), including:
- Increased motivation for studying English as a goal is set and visible progress is made
- Good preparation for the B2 First (same type of exam)
- Recognition of progress with an official Cambridge Assessment English certificate.
What's in the exam?
The exam consists of the following parts:
- Reading and writing – 1 hour 10 minutes
- Listening – 30 minutes
- Speaking in pairs – 8 to 10 minutes
You can do the speaking part with a friend also sitting the A2 KET exam.
To find out if you're ready, the mid-course exam for T3 level students is a mock exam.
To pass, you need to get 70%.
Price and exam dates
The exam costs €105,5.
The 'for Adults' version is held once a year, in July in Granollers, and the 'for Schools' once a year, in June, in Granollers and Sant Celoni. For exact dates, see the exam calendar in the "Official exams" section.
B1 Preliminary + B1 Preliminary for Schools
This internationally recognised official Cambridge English exam demonstrates an intermediate level with a basic grasp of English grammar and communication skills (Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
It is for adults and teenagers to show they can use a certain level of English for study and travel.
Some universities require this certificate from students studying master's degrees.
What is “PET for Schools"?
The B1 Preliminary (PET) for Schools exam has the same format as the B1 Preliminary (PET) for Adults. The only difference is the topics, which are more suitable for young learners studying at school.

- Listening – 35 minutes
- Speaking in pairs – 10 to 12 minutes
You can do the speaking part with a friend also sitting the B1 Preliminary exam.
To see if you're ready to do the test, at Cambridge School:
- Children in level TPET do a free mock exam
- Adults in INT2 and FIRST1 can do a free mock exam outside of class time if they wish.
To pass, you need to get 70%.
